Kevin J. Truitt works as the Housing Supervisor at the Columbus office. “Poverty is a serious and entrenched social problem. I am honored to work alongside people living in poverty to mitigate or eliminate the impact poverty has on their lives, and to fight for a world where economic insecurities no longer exist,” he says about his work with LASC.

Publications & Significant Cases

  • Ball v. DeWine, a federal civil rights class-action lawsuit brought in the Southern District of Ohio in 2016 to force the state of Ohio to enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live and receive services in their own homes and communities instead of harsh, isolating mental institutions. This case (settled in 2020) led to over 1,000 people leaving mental institutions. 
  • Jordan v. GDPM, a federal Fair Housing Act lawsuit in the Southern District of Ohio against a metropolitan housing authority for failing to accommodate the plaintiff's vision impairment and to provide her with information and materials in an accessible format. 
  • Mooneyhan v. Husted, a federal Americans with Disabilities Act lawsuit against the Ohio Secretary of State for failing to accommodate a voter hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital on Election Day. 
  • Published law review article entitled "Demore v. Kim: The Constitutionality of Mandatory Detention Pending Removal Proceedings for Criminal Noncitizens," Capital University Law School, 2005.

Kevin is a huge animal lover: dogs, cats, turtles, giraffes, sea lions, ducks, hippos, panda bears are his favorites. Most especially, he loves his dog Clementine and two orange cats, Pops and Buddy (the "Oranges"), and his former foster kitties, Oreo and Kiwi. Kevin also enjoys reading, listening to music, being in nature (especially trees), watching basketball, and Star Wars.
