Stuart Itani is the Managing Attorney of the Domestic Team at the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, a position he has held since he joined LASC in 2011. As Managing Attorney, Stuart coordinates the work of the Domestic Team’s staff attorneys and paralegal, and also represents individuals in a variety of domestic and family law proceedings. He helps individuals maintain safe and stable families by: securing orders for custody, parenting time, child support and spousal support in child custody and divorce proceedings; obtaining domestic violence and stalking protection orders; and engaging with other community-based groups to improve outcomes for transitioning and separated families. Stuart focuses his practice on representing victims and survivors of domestic abuse in custody and divorce proceedings, and providing legal resources in family law proceedings for underserved communities, including immigrant communities, limited English proficient (LEP) individuals, and residents living in rural areas of Madison County.
In addition, Stuart serves as LASC’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Officer. He participated in the 2015 Racial Justice Training Institute sponsored by the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and is a member of a team of Ohio legal aid advocates focused on advancing race-equity initiatives throughout the State.
Prior to joining LASC, Stuart served as a staff attorney and litigation support attorney for Southeastern Ohio Legal Services from 2004-2011, in the Zanesville (2004-2006) and Athens (2006-2011) offices. He practiced in the area of family, housing and consumer law.
Stuart is licensed to practice in the State of Ohio, and in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
